Blown-in insulation is a method of inserting insulating material within the gaps of the walls of the property without having to forcibly break open the walls to insert the insulation. Blown-in insulation is a well known technique that is applied to older houses which at the time of their construction had no built in insulation because conserving energy in homes was not an important issue to be taken into account in the house design. then your best option is blown-in insulation. Unlike the batt insulation method which is often applied to the walls of the modern house while it is  being constructed, blown-in insulation involves pumping loose material into the pre-existing wall through a small opening made by a trained contractor. A trained contractor is required for applying the blown-in insulation because the task requires a lot of skill and specialised equipment. Skill and experience is required because good judgement is needed in making the proper hole or entryway into the wall, drilling, filling and then re-plugging the gap they created in the wall as well as matching the paint between the refilled hole and the rest of the unaltered wall. Specialised equipment such as hoses, machines, pumps and the required material for an efficient and effective blown-in insulation.

Materials for blown-in insulation
There are a number of materials available for blown-in insulation:

• 1) Fibreglass: this material consists of thin glass fibres which trap the air, preventing loss of heat. When fibreglass is being pumped into a pre-existing wall, larger holes are required to pump this material into place more easily because pumping the material alone requires a lot pressure from the machine. Fibreglass will also dry out quickly which makes it suitable insulation for walls where there is high humidity.
• 2) Foam: This is a material much more efficient at trapping warm air (a very high R-value: the measure of insulation protection) but there are problems with this material such as it can shrink and form gaps, preventing warm air from being retained. It can also expand which could eventually wear down t he wall from the inside.
